And we mean "great great" in more than one context. For one thing, Rose is Julie's great aunt, and Z's double-great aunt. But for an even more important thing, Rose is the generous family member who funded Julie's education at Columbia University, which is where she and I met. So in a way, Rose is directly responsible for that little guy in her lap, and we can't thank her enough.
Outside in Rose's back yard was this loopy squirrel, who would park on the wall and either stand so still you'd think he was a little statue (which is why Rose dubbed him Oscar), or he'd chirp like a bird. We were so surprised by the sounds coming out of this squirrel, we shot a little video.
Isn't that weird? I thought there was something wrong with the air conditioning.

Can't watch the vid at work, but he does look like a statue in that picture!
Yay, Great Great Aunt Rose! Very cool connection!
I don't think Rose will ever read this, so a few funny things. She never did have any kids of her own, so she doesn't really know about babies. Loves kids, but never took care of one full time. But--EXPERT with TONS of advice. Weird advice. Like when we came in, she said, "Okay, so you want to put him on the floor?" And when we kept holding Zack, Rose kept saying, "So when are you going to put him on the floor? So do you want to put him on the floor now?" Finally I was like, "Why would I put him on the floor?" And she said, "So you don't have to hold him all the time!"
And the weird thing was, later I did put him on the floor, in his car seat, and for the very first time, he fell asleep like that. And Rose was like, "See!"
LOL julie! Guess she knew what she was talking about after all.
Holy cow, indeed! I just got to see the clip of the squirrel. It sounds like a smoke alarm when the battery is dying! Which is a noise that drives me totally insane.
OMG--I hate that noise. I have a couple stories about that noise. But mostly, after being an apartment manager, I can hear a smoke alarm with low batteries like a mile away. If I'm walking past a building where one is beeping, I want to rush in and knock on all the doors until I find the damn thing.
LOL! I know the feeling!
When we were in Key West we lived in an apt complex for awhile that I hated. The day after we moved in the thing started going off in the middle of the night, naturally. Thing is, it wouldn't stop, even after we took it down because it was hard-wired or something. We finally put it in the dishwasher so we could get some sleep.
As niece of the illustrious Aunt Rose, I'd like to add that she's 96 years old...and the boss of everyone.
Julie's Mom
holy cow is right...lol
p.s. tell jules that shan says hi
*waving with groverlike gesture*
I really do hope I can fund someone's education someday. Like maybe my son's! It's such a wonderful thing that Rose did for me. And now that it's ultimately resulted in our kid, it's even better.
